TOGETHER WE CARE

BE THE HEART OF PREMIER CARE

At Pioneer Ridge Long-Term Care & Senior Services, nursing goes beyond tasks and routines - it’s about connection, comfort, and compassion. This is a place where care is built on trust and warmth, and where every shift feels a little like coming home. From the smell of fresh bread in the morning to the sound of laughter in the lounge, real, relationship-centered care is part of everyday life because we don’t just work here, we work in someone’s home. As part of a true community campus with long-term care, assisted living, and intergenerational programs, you’ll be supported by a team that leads with empathy and innovation, like the Butterfly Model of Care for residents living with dementia. If you’re looking for meaningful work in a place that feels like family, this is it.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking for the right place to grow, Pioneer Ridge offers more than a job - it offers the kind of support that makes a real difference. From flexible schedules and financial incentives to ongoing education and wellness initiatives, our benefits are built to help you thrive, both in your role and in your life.

Whether you're full-time, temporary, part-time, or casual, additional nursing shifts are regularly offered and scheduled in advance - giving you more predictability, more opportunity to build your schedule, and the flexibility to work toward full-time hours if that’s your goal. It’s a system designed to support both your life and your income.

Many of our nurses begin in part-time, casual, or temporary roles. What makes Pioneer Ridge different is that you get the chance to apply for full-time permanent jobs before they’re posted externally – offering you more opportunity to grow your career from within.

As a nurse with the City of Thunder Bay, you’ll have access to a range of meaningful benefits designed to support your health, career, and life outside of work. Full-time and temporary full-time RNs and RPNs receive comprehensive coverage - including health, dental, vision, paid vacation and holidays, a matching pension plan, and access to wellness and learning programs.

Part-time and casual staff receive pay in lieu of benefits, access to wellness supports, and the option to join the matching pension plan.

We recognize the commitment it takes to build your career in healthcare, and we’re here to support you from day one. Full-time and temporary full-time RNs may be eligible for up to $54,000 in combined incentives - including a $25,000 provincial CCPN grant, $10,000 Northern Top-Up, $10,000 relocation grant, and a $9,000 commitment incentive from the City.

At Pioneer Ridge, we believe confident nurses provide the best care. That’s why we offer hands-on training that supports both new and experienced staff in building skills across key areas like palliative care, wound care, ethics, and dementia support (including Gentle Persuasive Approach, PIECES - Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Capabilities, Environment, Social Approach, Dementiability, and Butterfly training).

You’ll also benefit from quarterly pharmacy education and access to external learning opportunities. Thanks to support from the Ministry of Long-Term Care, we often cover wages, registration, and travel for conferences and specialty training.

At Pioneer Ridge, care isn’t just what we do - it’s how we do it. From the moment you step into Monarch Manor, part of our Butterfly Model of Care, you’ll notice the difference: no scrubs, no sterile hallways - just warm coffee, real connection, and a culture that puts emotion first. Nurses in this home area receive specialized training and support to create meaningful, resident-first moments every day. It’s care that truly feels like home - and it’s the first of its kind in Northwestern Ontario.

We’re proud to be fully accredited by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation - proof of our commitment to high-quality, resident-focused care. Our teams are continually improving, guided by best practices and a shared responsibility to provide exceptional support to residents and their families.

As a designated RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO), Pioneer Ridge leads the way in evidence-based nursing. Nurses here are empowered to grow through continuous education, mentorship, and collaboration. From rolling out new protocols to presenting at RNAO events, you’ll be part of a team that’s not just delivering care - but advancing it.
