2024 Mayors Mulligan
Mulligan's Day is more than just a golf tournament; it’s a chance for City employees to and community members to make a difference! All proceeds support PRO Kids, a charity that helps Thunder Bay children and youth access sports and recreation when families can’t afford the fees. By coming together on the course, our employees and community members demonstrate their commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to play and enjoy the benefits of sports. Together, we’re creating brighter futures for our youth!
2024 Ontario Winter Games
Earlier this year, Thunder Bay had the honor of hosting the 2024 Ontario Winter Games, the province’s largest multi-sport event, for the first time since 1974. A strong employee and community member committee lead the way in organizing the 2024 Ontario Winter Games. This exciting event not only showcased the talents of over 3,500 young athletes but also brought our community together to support these rising stars. With a focus on accessibility, community engagement, and economic growth, the Games left a lasting impact, generating over $6 million for our local economy and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
Pro Kids - Power To Play & 25 Years
In 2023, PRO Kids proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary! Over the years, this incredible charity has helped 27,481 children and youth access recreational programs when their families needed support. Through sports, arts, and cultural activities, kids learn valuable life skills, stay active, and create lasting friendships. Our PRO Kids team of employees works with over 200 local partners, who generously provide program spaces, ensuring every child in Thunder Bay has the power to play and thrive. Together, we’re building a brighter future for our youth!
Crossing Guard Appreciation Day
Each year, we celebrate School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week to recognize our dedicated employees who ensure our children’s safety on their way to school. This week-long event highlights the vital contributions of crossing guards, who create a culture of safety in our community every day. It’s a wonderful opportunity for schools, families, and local authorities to come together, express gratitude, and honor these unsung heroes. Join us in acknowledging their hard work and commitment to keeping our kids safe!
Community Clean-Up Trailer
The Community Clean-Up Trailer is here to help make Thunder Bay cleaner and greener! Launched by the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Services and the Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee, this trailer equips City employees and community volunteers with tools like brooms, bags, and rakes to tackle litter in outdoor areas. By reserving the trailer, residents can easily participate in clean-up efforts, while the City handles disposal at no cost. Together, we can keep our city beautiful and vibrant!
Monarch Appreciation Day
At the City of Thunder Bay, we celebrate Monarch Butterfly Appreciation Day on September 18, honoring the vital role of pollinators. Inspired by the late Dan Fulton, who created the Butterfly Garden on Adelaide Street, our community comes together to protect these beautiful creatures. During the event at Boulevard Lake, residents enjoyed butterfly garden tours and learned how to support pollinators by planting native plants. Together, we’re making a difference for future generations!
